Halloween Activities on Both Sides of the Delaware Bay

1.jpg

As Halloween approaches, candy bowls fill, kids (and adults alike) are in search of the best costume…our world gets spooky. The leaves fall and the sun sets early… just in time for all of the ghosts and monsters to come out. Halloween is a lot of ghostly fun. Weeks in advance of this famous day, there are haunted rides, trips, and much more to do in celebration. If you are traveling on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, activities abound on both sides of the Delaware Bay to sufficiently entertain OR scare yourself.

If you are into ghosts, you will definitely want to visit Cape May and Lewes. Cape May, a Victorian town, is known to be especially haunted. Lewes Ferry Terminal is one of the largest Unknown Sailers’ Burial Grounds on the East Coast. Starting in the beginning of October there are tons of activities to enjoy, sometimes with real ghosts.

Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tour:

Board the trolley, with psychic medium Craig McManus… if you dare! As you are guided through Cape May late at night, listen to what ghosts and spirits have to say as they fly by you. Maybe even encounter a few ghosts yourself and find out where they lived when they were alive.

Spooky Lantern Trolley Tour (CMLF led, departing from Cape May):

Learn more about our “spooky lantern” trolley tour for New Jersey residents to explore the uncanny past of Lewes, Delaware.

Murder Mystery Dinners (Cape May):

If you are into murder mysteries, then this Halloween activity is for you. As you are enjoying your wonderful four-course meal you are put right into a 1909 murder mystery. Help find out who the real killer is before they get you next. Do you think you have what it takes to solve the case?

Reserve your ticket in advance as spaces are limited.

Midnight at the Physick Estate:

Are you brave enough to spend midnight at one of the most haunted places in Cape May? Spend your evening with a psychic medium as he tries to channel some of the spirits that are still living in the house. Get your ticket now so you could be one of the lucky 25 to spend midnight with some ghosts.

Physick Estate

While traveling over to the other side of the bay, there are activities for all ages who love Halloween in Southern Delaware.

Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddlers Festival:

October 28th – 30th

This annual festival takes place at Rehoboth and Dewey beaches. It is a great time for everyone in the family to enjoy and celebrate Halloween with all the festivities. Join the costume parade to show off your scary awesome costume! Even your furry little friends can join in one the fun. After the parade, enjoy some live entertainment, carnival games, or test your throwing skills in the broom toss. To help work off all of that candy and sugar goodness, you can run the Fall Classic 5K and 1 mile Fright Walk. This festival is one that you don’t want to miss.

Punkin Chunkin World Championship:

November 4th – 6th

Bridgeville, DE

This exciting event isn’t like anything you’ve ever seen before. It’s not spooky or scary, but if you like seeing pumpkins get launched thousands of feet by hilarious homemade contraptions, then you will love this. This event brings hundreds of creative minds together to build their unique pumpkin launchers. It is unfortunately too late to sign up for this competition but, you are always able to go and watch the fun as hundreds of pumpkins are launched through the air. For more information on tickets and the contest rules visit their website.

As you are getting ready to celebrate this scary fun holiday, make sure to check out these awesome events on either side of the Delaware Bay. Travel with the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to get the ultimate experience and maybe spot some ghost ships!

Happy Halloween from the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Family and safe travels!

Sunset Wine Cruises Warm the Soul

Shoulder season cruises back for 9th season

What’s a unique way to enjoy wine, savor a sunset, and enjoy the best of the Delaware Bay? One answer is the Cape May-Lewes Ferry’s wine cruises, back for the ninth year by popular demand.  This year, the cruises have a new flavor with special gourmet small plate tastings by the chefs of each On the Rocks restaurant.

The Lewes cruises depart the terminal on four consecutive Fridays at 4:15 p.m. while the Cape May cruises leave the terminal on four successive Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. The package includes return-trip foot passenger ferry cruise, wine samplings and pairings, and the opportunity to purchase featured wines by the glass aboard the Ferry. Live music  also adds to the special atmosphere.

According to Heath Gehrke, Director of Operations for the Cape May – Lewes Ferry, the Wine Lovers Sunset Cruise is that unique remedy for residents and visitors looking to take a break from the ordinary.  “As fall sets in, what could be better than to sip a fine wine, savor some delicious Hors d’oeuvres, listen to great music and enjoy a dramatic sunset?” Gehrke said. “Think of the response when you say to your partner, ‘Honey, I’m taking you on a cruise!’ What a memorable way to experience the Ferry and the wonders of the Delaware Bay as a foot passenger.”
